  • History of Adidas

Adidas is a German multinational corporation that designs, develops and manufactures sport shoes, apparel and accessories. Its headquarters is based inHerzogenaurach,Bavaria,Germany. Adidas was founded in 1949 by Adolf Dassler. Dassler set up the factory, ‘Adi Dassler adidas Sportshuhfabrik’ and worked alongside 47 employees. He created the shoe with the now famous three parallel stripes. This is now incorporated in to the easily recognisable Adidas logo which is used across all of its range of polo shirts, sportswear and trainers.

Adidas became recognised worldwide afterGermany’s win in the 1954 World Cup inBernagainst the then unbeatable Hungarian National Football Team.Germany’s success went down in history as the ‘Miracle inBern’. The light-weight football boots with screw-in-studs were the first of its kind. In 1967, Adidas went on to celebrate its first piece of apparel; Franz Beckenbauer’s tracksuit. This tracksuit also displayed the recognised three parallel stripes. This release prompted a new business for Adidas and it was no longer just famous for shoes. Adidas created the official ball for the 1970 FIFA World Cup and has continued to do so for the World Cups ever since.

The company has developed sports-inspired streetwear and leisurewear for a number of years. It now offers footwear and apparel for every type of sport and every kind of style and fashion. Adidas has become the largest sportswear manufacturer in Europe and make team wear for some of the world’s biggest sports clubs.
