But what constitutes a great chef apron? What features should you be looking out for?

The first choice you need to make is whether you want a bib apron or a waist apron. A bib apron offers the highest level of protection from stains and splashes in the kitchen, and will keep your chef whites in pristine condition. A waist apron offers less top-half protection but is the more stylish option for the chef that likes to look on point.

Regardless of your style preferences, Oliver Harvey’s range of chef aprons have plenty of options to suit your individual needs.

Chef aprons differ from front of house style aprons in that they are very minimalistic in design. Pockets and additional features are nowhere to be seen, with a sole focus on ensuring protection from the rigours of the kitchen and improved hygiene.

In the case of Oliver Harvey, there is also a focus on the finer details which give their aprons that touch of class that many similar aprons don’t have. The key detail is the ties, which bear the Oliver Harvey seal of approval and really justify why these aprons are some of the best-selling in the UK.

The aprons are available in five different colours, as well as a striped “butchers” style variant, so the choice is yours.

Fabric composition is also important to consider. For a little bit extra, the ripstop bib and waist aprons use a tear-resistant material designed to prevent damage to the apron and improve its longevity. Ripstop fabric is manufactured using a special reinforced polycotton fabric, making it ultra-durable and ultra-lightweight.

If you have a little extra cash, the Stud Halter apron range is also ideal for chefs. It packs a few extra features in for that cash, however; the stud halter fastening at the top is a fantastic little detail and adds adjustability to the apron, as well as a concealed pen pocket at the top.

If you’re looking for something with a bit more functionality and utility, many of the front of house aprons are great options for the kitchen.

Namely, Oliver Harvey’s denim apron range has proven to be a cult hit among chefs. If you’re willing to splash the cash, you could have yourself a black contrast, grey or navy denim bib apron which does the job of keeping your chef jacket protected, but also looks incredible too. You could even have your denim apron with leather detailing.
